| Video shows execution of Palestinian in Jerusalem | | Maureen Clare Murphy - Electronic Intifada - The apparent execution of a Palestinian in occupied East Jerusalem was caught on video by Al Jazeera on Friday. Israel says that the young man was carrying out a stabbing attack on Israeli Border Police officers when he was killed at the Damascus Gate to Jerusalem’s Old City. But video of the incident released by Al Jazeera indicates that the young man did not pose an immediate threat to anyone’s life when massive lethal force was used against him.-rh

| Netanyahu`s bag of tricks to deflect criticism | | Akiva Eldar - Al-Monitor - “Many voices in Israel understand democracy today in a narrow and minimal way. For them, democracy is just government by the majority.” This astute criticism was made Feb. 15 by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. The main voice that the first citizen is referring to is that of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Rivlin`s observation was prompted by a new bill Netanyahu is proposing that would allow the Knesset to expel its own members. The Israeli media refers to the legislation as the “suspension law,” rather than the more precise “expulsion law.”-rh

| Reconstruction of Gaza: zero buildings, massive profit. | | Who Profits - The last Israeli attack on Gaza left at least 2,000 Palestinians killed and 17,000 homes destroyed, rendering over 110,000 people homeless and turned much of the strip to rubble. In the aftermath of Israel’s blatant violations of International Humanitarian Law, the already existing humanitarian crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip has been further worsened. Not only did Israel manage to avoid accountability measures, but it has also benefited economically from the ruins it has caused. The case study of Nesher, the sole Israeli cement producer, shows how Israeli construction market makes profit from the destruction Israel has caused in the Gaza Strip.-rh

| Exclude and observe — the violence of settler sovereignty in Palestine | | Jimmy Johnson--Israel is a settler colony. It is premised on the dislocation of Palestine. Israeli geographic existence and expansion is contingent upon Palestinian geographic contraction. Every five dunams of Israel is five less dunams of Palestine, what Patrick Wolfe calls a relationship of “negative articulation.” This dynamic illuminates the tremendous hostility to Palestinian land transfers – whether coerced, fraudulent or voluntary – to Zionists. When someone from Senegal buys a house in India the space does not become part of Senegal’s sovereignty, it remains India. When settlers obtain Palestinian land they remove it from Palestine and transfer it to Israel. The entire history of Zionism and Israel is this history of anti-Palestine-ing (along with some colonizing of adjacent nations). This is no less, and quite possibly most, true of the arms industry and Israeli military-industrial complex. dn | 21/2/2016 |
