Tensions increase at Al Aksa Mosque, due to increasing number of Israeli Jews trying to stake a claim | | Jodi Rudoren - New York Times - Palestinian leaders say that the
landmark Al Aksa Mosque and Dome of the Rock in the heart of Jerusalem`s
Old City face worst tension in memory, due to increased activitiy of
Jews trying to ascent the Mount and stake a claim to it. For decades the
Israelis drawn to the site were mainly a fringe of hard-core zealots,
but now more mainstream Jews are lining up to enter, as a widening group
of Israeli politicians and rabbis are folloing the lead of the radical
right-wing. A spate of stone-throwing clashes erupted this month: on
Wednesday, three Muslims were arrested and an Israeli police officer
wounded in the face. And on Friday thousands of Arab citizens of Israel
rallied in the north, warning that Al Aksa is in danger. ak | 28/9/2013 |

Israeli Actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque Raise Palestinian Fears | | Daoud Kuttab - Al-Monitor - The biggest fear for Palestinians is that Israel will try to apply a shared-time arrangement to allow Jews to pray in the area of Al-Aqsa Mosque. This situation could evolve into one similar to that at Hebron`s Ibrahimi Mosque, where Muslim control over their own mosque compound will be divided with the Israelis, who make all the decisions regarding who prays and when.-rh
