| Israeli Government ‘Puzzled’ Over Australia’s Recognition Of ‘West’ Jerusalem As Capital | | Charles Bybelezer - The Medialine - The Israeli government welcomed
with minimal enthusiasm Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s
decision over the weekend to recognize “West” Jerusalem as the Jewish
state’s capital. Notably, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu failed to
release a statement on the matter, whereas the Foreign Ministry
described the prospective opening of a trade and defense office in
Jerusalem as a “step in the right direction.” For his part, Parliament
Speaker Yuli Edelstein called the ordeal “puzzling.” Observers are
attributing the modest response to Canberra’s decision to not formally
relocate its embassy to the holy city and, perhaps more significantly,
due to Morrison’s stated commitment to recognizing the eastern part of
Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state in the eventuality of
a peace agreement.-rh | 18/12/2018 |

| Palestinian Forced to Demolish his Home in East Jerusalem | | Jerusalem /PNN -
"The demolition was ordered under the pretext that the family did
not hold an Israeli-issued permit for the building of their home. It
is one of many such demolitions carried out under the authority of
the occupation municipality, displacing thousands of Palestinians in
the last decade." ca | 8/12/2018 |

| Palestinian Family to be Evicted from its Silwan Home for Jewish Settlers | | IMEMC -
"The Magistrate Court issued the eviction decision prior to a session for the High Court to rule on ownership of the land. Documents were submitted to the High Court proving that the land on which the house is built belongs to the late Jamil Siam, and not to the late Abu Zweir. The court has set the 8th of next month to deliberate on the matter.
Abu Zweir’s heirs explained that they had been fighting a legal battle in Israeli courts, for 22 years, to prove ownership of the house and land and to refute claims, by the Elad settler group, of ownership of the property." - id | 6/12/2018 |

| Israel’s new war of attrition on Jerusalem’s Palestinians | | Jonathan Cook - Mondoweiss - Last week dozens of Palestinians were
arrested in Jerusalem, accused of working for the PA to stop house
sales to the settlers. It is a quiet campaign of attrition, designed
to wear down Jerusalem’s Palestinian residents. The hope is that they
will eventually despair and relocate to the city’s distant suburbs
outside the wall or into the West Bank. What Palestinians in Jerusalem
urgently need is a reason for hope – and a clear signal that other
countries will not join the US in abandoning them.-rh | 4/12/2018 |

| Palestinian demolishes own structures in Jerusalem | | Ma`an -
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that Ahmad Siyam was forced to demolish his property of a storehouse, a garage and stairs, in the Ein al-Luza area, upon order by the Israeli municipality under the pretext that the structures were built without the difficult-to-obtain Israeli permit. (...) For Jewish Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem`s illegal settlements, the planning, marketing, development, and infrastructure are funded and executed by the Israeli government. By contrast, in Palestinian neighborhoods, all the burden falls on individual families to contend with a lengthy permit application that can last several years and cost tens of thousands of dollars. | Israel Continues with Ethnic Cleansing Policies in Occupied Jerusalem | | IMEMC News & Agencies -
"In its latest report about Israeli settlements activities in the
occupied West Bank, the National Bureau for Defending Land and
Resisting Settlements stated that, within the Israeli plans to
complete the settlement belt around Jerusalem in general, and the
Al-Aqsa Mosque in particular, the Israeli High Court has approved
the largest settlement projects in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of
occupied Jerusalem, using the Absentee Property Law, which
stipulates that Palestinian properties before 1948 were extracted
away forever, unlike Jewish property, and there is no right of
return according to Israeli law." ca | 1/12/2018 |
