| Emergency demo at home of Jerusalem Chief of Police | | Emergency demo at home of Jerusalem Chief of Police
Last Saturday, 9-year-old Malek Issa, was shot by the Israeli
police. The horrifying event occurred when Malek, after getting off
his school bus, went to buy a snack from the grocery just next door.
The rubber-coated bullet that hit his eye caused serious injury to
his skull and, of course, his eye. Unfortunately, it is most likely
that he will be permanently blind in the eye that was hit. His
family and concerned activists are still at his side in the
hospital, praying for his recovery.
The criminal shooting of a 9-year-old boy is just one of the many
violent incidents carried out by Israeli police officers against the
residents of Issawiya. On a daily basis, the Israeli police throw
stun grenades, use gas, enforce roadblocks, and carry out arbitrary
arrests in a residential neighborhood of more than 20,000 people.

| East Jerusalem child hit by police "sponge bullet" would lose one or both eyes | | Times of Israel - A 9-year old boy, identified by his first name,
Malek, is in serious condition in Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital. “He
has a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, his left eye has not
yet been treated and he will probably lose it,” his father told
Channel 13 TV news. “We don’t have much hope, they gave him a one
percent chance of saving the eye.” Malek had been hit by what the
Israeli Police insists on terming "a sponge bullet", actually a
metal bullet tipped with some sponge. Following increased media
attention, police said that its Internal Investigations Unit is
probing the case. [By coincidence, PM Netanyahu this week ordered a
probe of the Police Internal Investigations Unit itself, and
efficacy of its interrogations - motivated not by concern for the
Palestinian victims of police brutality, but by a desperate effort
to gain the votes of the Israeli Ethiopian community in the March
elections. AK] | 18/2/2020 |

| Dawn of protest: Palestinians stand against `deal of century` at prayers | | Ahmad Melhem -
Al-Monitor
"On Feb. 7, thousands of Palestinians performed the fajr prayers at
Al-Aqsa Mosques in Jerusalem, despite the extensive deployment of
Israeli police in the city, in response to the campaign. The Israeli
police stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, while policemen were
deployed on the roofs of buildings. Dozens of military checkpoints
appeared in Jerusalem’s streets and alleys. Buses carrying
worshippers from inside the Green Line were stopped from access to
Al-Aqsa." ca
