| Is Israel trying to keep Hamas from running in Palestinian elections? | | Adnan Abu Amer - Al-monitor - The Israeli army has in the past
carried out arrests of members of Palestinian factions,
especially Hamas, to thwart their plans to carry out armed
operations. This is different from what is happening in recent weeks
- ever since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the
general election dates, Israel has been increasingly arresting Hamas
cadres involved in the elections campaign. In
January alone, the number of detainees amounted to 461, including
members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), political
leaders, as well as students and union activists. [ak]. | 25/2/2021 |

| JNF plans to expand into West Bank settlements draws widespread condemnation | | YUMNA PATEL - Mondoweiss - The Jewish National Fund (JNF) is moving
forward with a new policy allowing the organization to purchase
privately-owned Palestinian land deep in the occupied West Bank. The
executive board of the organization, which works to promote Jewish
control of land in historic Palestine, voted 6-5 on Sunday to start
officially purchasing land in the West Bank to expand Israeli
settlements.A draft resolution of the new policy, obtained by Axios,
states that the group would be allowed to purchase land from
Palestinians in Area C of the West Bank, potentially for hundreds of
millions of dollars. // Priority will be given to acquiring
Palestinian land that lies within the boundaries of existing
settlements, as well as land adjacent to those settlements that could
be used for their expansion. Among the areas of the West Bank
reported to be prioritized are lands in the Jordan Valley —
previously slated by Israel for annexation — and in the districts of
Hebron, Bethlehem, and Ramallah, among others.(rh) | 21/2/2021 |

| Collective punishment policy: Occupation Army demolishes the home of a Palestinian prisoner`s family | | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights - At approximately 12:00 on
Wednesday, soldiers accompanied by a bulldozer moved into Tourah
village, southwest of Jenin - among them Special Unit members and
Combat Engineering experts with explosive devices. They surrounded
the home of Mohammed Marouh Soliman Kabha’s (42) in the village
center and forced its residents to leave along with 10 other
families living in nearby houses. Tear gas canisters and sound bombs
were shot to intimidate the villagers and keep them off. Explosives
were placed inside the second and third floors and remotely
detonated. The second floor was 150 sqm and the third floor - 70
sqm. Kabha’s wives, Donia Ayoub Kabha (30) and Manar Saleh Kabha
(29) and their three children lived in the house. Kabha had been
detained by the army on 24 December 2020 and charged with having
killed a female Israeli settler, Esther Horgen. No evidence of any
involvement by his family members in the killing was produced
(according to the charge sheet, he carried out the killing at a
momentary impulse, to avenge the death of a friend from untreated
illness while in Israeli custody). Nor was any evidence of a
collusion by family members needed for the Supreme Court in
Jerusalem to approve the demolition of the family home. It was
deemed necessary in order to "create deterrence", and in order to
increase the effect the army decided to use explosives rather than a
bulldozer. [ak]

| Weekly Report on Israeli Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory 28 | | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights - Israeli occupation forces
(IOF) continued to commit crimes and multi-layered violations
against Palestinian civilians and their properties, including raids
into Palestinian cities that are characterized with excessive use of
force, assault, abuse and attacks on civilians that are mostly
conducted after midnight and in the early morning hours. This week
witnessed a continued escalation in IOF demolitions particularly in
the northern Jordan valleys, which witnessed 3 razing operations
that displaced more than 20 families. IOF also dismantled and
destroyed dozens of street vendor carts and stands near Jalamah
checkpoint and the Annexation Wall in Jenin, depriving dozens of
Palestinians of their livelihoods. This week, PCHR documented 237
violations of international human rights law and international
humanitarian law (IHL) by IOF and settlers in the oPt. [ak] | 4/2/2021 |

| UNRWA anticipates US resumption of financial support | | PNN / IMEMC - UNRWA spokesperson Sami Mushasha’a expects, within
days, that the United States will announce the official return of
the financial donation to the agency. The US was the largest donor
until 2017, at $ 360 million, which is a quarter of the agency’s
budget. In an interview with “Voice of Palestine” radio Mushasha’a
said that the return of the US donation to the agency will help the
agency to solve the financial crisis to some extent, but it will not
solve the problem permanently. [ak] | 4/2/2021 |

| Wide-scale demolitions in North Jordan Valley: 28 homes destroyed, 85 Palestinians displaced including 45 children. | | Palestinian Centre For Human Rights - at approximately 08:45 on
Monday, soldiers and construction vehicles moved into Kherbet Hemsa
al-Foqa in the northern Jordan Valley, east of Tubas. Workers
accompanying the troops proceeded to demolish and dismantle civilian
homes and sheep barns, load them onto trucks and confiscate their
contents. The demolition included 14 residential tents, seven
tents and five cattle pens; the destroyed structures belonged to 11
families (85 civilians, including 45 children) who were rendered
homeless. Troops told the affected area’s residents to accompany
them to be transferred to Ein Shibley area, west of Al-Hamra
checkpoint in the central Jordan Valley; however, they refused to
leave the area. Soldiers threatened the residents that they would
return the following day and expel them from Hemsa al-Foqa. It
should be noted that on 03 November 2020, IOF conducted a wide-
scale demolition campaign in the same area, which included the
demolition of 70 homes and facilities and displacing 60 Palestinians
(mostly children).[ak] | 4/2/2021 |
