| The Myth of Coexistence in Israel | | Diana Buttu - New York Times - Secretary of State Antony Blinken is
visiting Israel and plans to visit the West Bank in an attempt to
bolster Friday’s cease-fire, which halted Israel’s bombing campaign in
Gaza and Hamas’s rocket attacks on Israel. On Tuesday, Mr. Blinken
spoke in Jerusalem about his intention to “rally international
support” to aid Gaza and rebuild what was destroyed. Despite the
cease-fire, protests by Palestinians in Jerusalem and elsewhere have
continued, the Israeli police have arrested scores of Palestinians in
the West Bank and East Jerusalem and Israeli settlers have persisted
in their provocations. The fault lines in Israeli society have never
been clearer and Jerusalem remains the tinder box that could ignite
another catastrophic fire unless the underlying causes — Israel’s
occupation of the Palestinian territories and its highly
discriminatory policies — are dealt with. (rh) | 27/6/2021 |

| Reality of a West Bank Outpost: Four Dead Palestinians and a Drone Spraying Tear Gas | | Amira Hass - Haaretz - The protest around the illegal outpost of Evyatar
has claimed four lives in six weeks. Palestinians on whose lands the
outpost was built tell of armed civilians walking amidst Israeli
soldiers-(rh) | 27/6/2021 |

| Israeli police killed Palestinian who didn`t pose threat - B`Tselem | | Jerusalem Post - Security camera footage shows that Israeli police officers killed a Palestinian man in May who didn’t pose a threat to them in a “targeted killing,” claimed the left-wing Israeli NGO B’Tselem on Wednesday.
Ahmad ‘Abdu, 25, was sitting in his car in the Um a-Sharayet neighborhood in the West Bank city of El-Bireh on May 25, when officers from the Israeli Special Police Unit blocked his vehicle, exited their vehicle and immediately opened fire toward ‘Abdu, according to the report at https://www.btselem.org/press_releases/20210623_targeted_killing_of_ahmad_abdu [bz] | 24/6/2021 |

| Army Closes All Roads Leading To Abu Sbeih Mountain | | Israeli soldiers closed, on Thursday morning, all roads leading to
Abu Sbeih Mountain, in Beita south of Nablus. The soldiers closed
the roads by placing sandhills and installing roadblocks, in an
effort to stop the ongoing processions carried out by the
Palestinians, including nighty protests, which have been ongoing
since Israeli settlers occupied the mountain top and installed an
outpost in early May of this year. The army also confiscated a
bulldozer belonging to the Beita Town Council. On Friday, June 11th,
the soldiers killed a boy, identified as Mohammad Sa’id Hamayel, 15,
after shooting him with a live round in the heart. He was the fourth
Palestinian killed during these protests. [The new settlement
outpost, named "Evyatar", is illegal also under the Israeli
occupation`s very lenient standards. However, removing it requires
the personal approval of the new Israeli PM Naftali Bennet, who in
the past supported and personally participated in creating
settlement outposts of this kind. AK] | 24/6/2021 |

| `Silent intifada`: West Bank is at boiling point | | Elior Levy - Ynet - Analysis: 34 Palestinians have been killed in
past month - more than during any other month in the last decade -
as tensions persist over Gaza conflict and clashes at al-Aqsa
Mosque; these events and cancelation of parliamentary elections have
left PA weaker and Hamas stronger. There has been a significant
increase in the number of armed attacks, demonstrations,
"disturbances" of various kinds and clashes between West Bank
Palestinians and Israeli security forces, starting with the conflict
in Gaza last month but not ending with the ceasefire there. Close
inspection of these incidents shows that this is not limited to a
particular area, but is occurring across the entire West Bank.[ak]

| Hamas claims flag march victory: ‘Israel rerouted the parade and flights’ | | TOI STAFF - Times of Israel - Several fires have broken out in the
Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council on the Israeli side of the Gaza
border. The Fire Service says they were caused by incendiary balloons
sent from the Strip. Yesterday, the Hamas terror group’s incendiary
balloon unit announced that it would resume operations against the
backdrop of the controversial Jerusalem flag march slated for this
afternoon. Israel has warned that it will respond to breaches of its
sovereignty, be it rocket fire or the launching of incendiary devices
that have torched hundreds of acres of land near the Gaza border.(rh) | 20/6/2021 |

| In Just a Month, Illegal Settler Outpost Sprouts Up on Palestinian Lands | | Amira Hass - Haaretz - In the past month, in the heart of a
Palestinian rural area south of Nablus in the West Bank, a new/old
outpost called Evyatar is being constructed and expanded. Although
only a short period of time has passed, there are already around 40
structures on the site. The massive construction is being carried out
overtly, at the initiative of the Nahala settlement movement, which is
providing financing and logistical assistance, and with the backing of
the Samaria Regional Council. However, this past Sunday, two days
after this article was first published in Hebrew, a military order was
issued that is supposed to prevent entry to the site and to enable its
demolition. The settlers vow to defy the order.(rh) | 13/6/2021 |

| Three Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers during Jenin incursion | | IMEMC/Times of Israel - Israeli undercover agents penetrated into
Jenin with the intention of detaining two Palestinians defined as
"terror suspects", members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. There
was an armed confrontation and the Israelis, dressed in civilian
clothes, shot and killed one of the "suspects". The incident
occurred near a base of the Palestinian Authority`s security forces.
Officers stationed at the building intervened, shooting at the
Israelis but not hitting them - whereupon the Israelis shot and
killed two Palestinian officers. The official Israeli communique
blamed this result on " miscommunications" - i.e. usually Israeli
troops coordinate their entry into Palestinian cities with PA
security forces, in order "to allow the latter to draw back and
avoid confrontation", but this was not done in this case. In the
Palestinian accounts, the Israeli forces were described as extra-
judicially assassinating all three Palestinians, without referring
to the Israeli distinction between "terrorist suspects" and
Palestinians security officers killed by mistake. Conversely, some
Israeli sources described all the three killed Palestinians as
"terrorists". [ak] | 10/6/2021 |
