The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,    but because of the people who don't do anything about it

In the hottest part of the year, occupation forces demolish Beit Dajan`s water reservoirIMEMC - Israeli forces demolished a water reservoir set up on lands belonging to the villagers of Beit Dajan, east of Nablus. Aactivist Tawfiq Haj Mohammad said that the Israeli forces raided the village and demolished the village council`s water reservoir that had a capacity of 500 cubic meters of water and was used for drinking and irrigating purposes. The villagers had for some time managed to halt demolition of the tank by legal appeals, but the military authorities finally carried out their design, with the water from the destroyed tank not only being irrevocably lost but also flooding and damaging nearby lands. Haj Mohammad said that the village suffers from a water shortage problem and that the Israeli authorities sabotage any projects that aim to solve this issue. [Since 1967, Israel has secured control of the West Bank water sources. Palestinians are forbidden to dig wells on their land without an Israeli permit, which is only rarely given. ak]15/7/2021

`Entire village destroyed, 42 people left homeless, water tanks conficacated on a particularly hot day` Lynn Hastings - UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory - The mass demolition and confiscation of properties by Israeli forces in the Palestinian community of Humsa – Al Bqai’a in the northern West Bank is disturbing. Throughout the demolition, Israeli forces blocked access of humanitarian personnel to the families. Thirty-eight structures were demolished or confiscated, most alarmingly, water tanks. Altogether 42 people, including 24 children, have lost their homes, being left out in the open, in the summer heat, with virtually no basic provisions; even milk, diapers, clothes and toys had been taken. This is the Israeli authorities` way to force the community of Humsa – Al Bqai’a to leave their homes and make their way to a "designated location.". [ak] 10/7/2021

The house of an alleged Palestinian assailant blown up at Turmus AyyaIMEMC - At dawn, massed Israeli soldiers and armored vehicles invaded the town Turmus Ayya, surrounding the home of Montaser Shalabi - a 44-year old Palestinian businessman who was detained and charged with having shot from his car and killed Israeli settler Yehuda Goeta, two months ago. The Israeli security service said that Shalabi "does not fir the usual profile of a terrorist" but that they are sure of his guilt. As yet, he had not been charged and certainly not convicted, but under the military government`s rules that does not preclude destroying his home "in order to deter others". The Shalbi Family appealed to the Supreme Court in Jerusalem, but the judges turned down their appeal. The demolition was held up for a few days because the Shalbis are American citizens, but was carried out nevertheless. After forcing out the family, the soldiers wired the house and blew it up. Townspeople confronted the soldiers, the army reporting "about 200 rioters". Shalbi`s wife said: “We are not the first to have this done to us; this is all part of Israel’s illegal policies of collective punishment. We will rebuild, and we will remain steadfast.” [ak] 8/7/2021

Thousands of Palestinians swept up in Israeli arrest campaignAljazeera - Silwan, occupied East Jerusalem – Israel continues to carry out a wave of arrests of Palestinians, including children, in an effort to crush Palestinian resistance and political opposition to the occupation. In May 2021, at least 3,100 Palestinians in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and 1948 occupied territories were arrested during random and organised Israeli arrest campaigns, reported the Palestinian prisoners’ association Addameer in its report for the month. The largest proportion of those arrests, 2,000, took place within Israel’s internationally recognised Green Line boundary following mass protests against Israeli raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the eviction of Palestinian residents from their homes in East Jerusalem, and clashes with Israeli settlers and forces.(rh) 4/7/2021
