Gaza`s infrastructure on the verge of collapse, report warns | | Dov Lieber - Times of Israel - The Gisha organization, which released its report, “Hand on the Switch: Who’s Responsible for Gaza’s Infrastructure Crisis?” on Tuesday, said the 1.8 million inhabitants of the Strip are plagued by frequent blackouts, undrinkable water and an outdated cellular network. The grim state of the Palestinian enclave’s infrastructure led earlier this month to the largest demonstrations in years by Gaza residents against the Palestinian leadership. The Israeli group puts lion’s share of blame on Israel. [bz] | 31/1/2017 |

Council of Europe report accuses Israel of `systematic killing` in Gaza (including link to full report) | | Itamar Eichner - Y-net - The Council of Europe, meeting at
Strasbourg, voted by a 45-12 majority to adopt a report sharply
critical of Israeli conduct in the Gaza Strip. The report cites
"Cases of the deliberate fatal shooting of individuals who posed no
imminent danger to life, amounting to an appalling pattern of
apparently systematic unlawful killings". As well as calling for an
end to the siege of Gaza, the report calls on EU countries to back a
formal investigation by the International Criminal Court. Israeli
Knesset Member Eli Alaluf, who addressed the council to defend
Israeli policies, asserted that "Israel wants to live in peace with
its neighbors. Gaza is not under siege, but regulated". [ak]

flooded us with sewage water while we are on board our vessels” [ry] | 30/1/2017 |

Trump’s Wall and Israel’s Wall in Palestine | | Eileen Fleming -
The Arab Daily News -
"The Israeli government insists that the sole function of the wall is securing its border, but it has been ineffective in preventing violence against Jewish Israelis. For one, the dramatic decrease in suicide bombings since the wall was constructed derives not from the wall but from shifting Palestinian strategies of resistance…" - id

Israeli witness in Gaza: No water, no electricity and children dying unnecessarily | | Ayelett Shani - Haaretz - Salah Haj Yahya, 50, who lives in Taibeh, runs a mobile clinic on behalf of Physicians for Human Rights and leads medical teams going to Gaza: “Most people don’t have work. They roam the streets, looking for a way to make a living. Across the Gaza Strip there are many people simply selling coffee or tea in the street, preparing a pot at home and walking around with it. A cup of coffee costs half a shekel (13 cents). The main thing is to make some money. [bz] | 7/1/2017 |
