| Israel cuts supply of fuel to Gaza’s power plant by half “until further notice” | | Gisha - Gaza suffers from an acute, chronic shortage of electricity,
impacting homes, hospitals, factories, and basic civilian
infrastructure. Since October 2018, fuel funded through a donation
by Qatar is used to operate three of the power plant’s four
turbines. Prior to Israel`s decision to cut the supply by half,
the power plant was producing about 65 megawatts, providing
residents with electricity in cycles of 6-8 consecutive hours
followed by at least 8-hour-long outages. Unless Israel reverses
its decision, one of the plant’s turbines will stop operating and
the power plant will only produce about 40 megawatts. Electricity
supply to residents will drop to only four consecutive hours
at a time. Deliberate or indiscriminate rocket fire on civilian
population centers are a breach of international law. However, the
imposition of punitive measures against the civilian population in
the Strip also constitutes a serious violation of international law
based on the same principle of protection of civilians. Israel’s
decision to deliberately reduce the supply of a basic humanitarian
commodity, knowingly harming the civilian population in Gaza,
constitutes illegal collective punishment.[ak] | 27/8/2019 |

| In one East Jerusalem neighborhood, summer vacation has become a war zone | | Yuval Abraham -

"Issawiya is home to 22,000 people, 6,420 of whom are children now
on summer vacation, says Omar Atia, who heads an NGO that supports
the children of the neighborhood. I call him as he is on his way to
Jaffa with his family, to celebrate Eid al-Adha.“I am fleeing
Issawiya, Yuval,” he tells me. “One cannot be there during the
holiday. It’s too sad. The holiday has always been my favorite day
of the year ever ever since I was a child — wearing new clothes,
laying them out on the bed the night before, decorating the
neighborhood, cooking pasta in the street, feeling happy. But this
year, anyone who can is going elsewhere to celebrate. The parents do
not want their children to be in the streets. People are mourning.
Over the last two month I haven’t seen most of the kids. Everyone
stays inside. A child doesn’t forget difficult experiences, do you
understand? This situation makes hatred grow in their hearts.” ca

| Israel actively pushing Palestinian emigration from Gaza, official says | | Raphael Ahren - Times of Israel - Israel is actively promoting the emigration of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and is working to find other countries who may be willing to absorb them, a senior Israeli official said Monday. Israel is ready to carry the costs of helping Gazans emigrate, and would even be willing to consider allowing them to use an Israeli air field [by way of extreme favor-bz] close to Gaza to allow them to leave for their new host countries, the official said, apparently referring to air force bases deep inside Israel. | Rashida Tlaib gets OK to visit her grandmother, then decides against it | | Gabe Friedman -
JTA
"Israel still allows humanitarian requests as exceptions to the law.

Bank to see her grandmother, who is in her 90s, saying it could be
her “last opportunity to see her.” She promised not to promote the
boycott movement against Israel while there. “I will respect any
restrictions and will not promote any boycotts against Israel during
my visit,” she wrote.Tlaib tweeted her change of heart just before 9
a.m. Eastern time Friday." ca

| Daily life under occupation: Israeli military blocks access roads to two Palestinian villages in June and July 2019 | | B’Tselem - "Blocking the entrances to villages has long become one of the routine
methods of oppression used by Israel against Palestinian residents of the West
Bank. Usually, the military justifies such closures with allegations that village
youths threw stones or Molotov cocktails at Israeli vehicles" [ry] | 12/8/2019 |
