| No letup in Israeli attacks on Gaza fishers | | Tamara Nassar - Electronic Intifada - The coronavirus pandemic has derailed a lot of activities, but not Israel’s attacks on Palestinian fishers. Combined now also with Ramadan, this is a particularly important and difficult time for Gaza’s fishers. (...) “Sardines historically make up 60 percent of the total fish catch and form the bulk of the income of Gazan fishermen,” OCHA, the United Nations humanitarian coordination agency, has previously reported.
Sardines are not typically found near Gaza’s coast, but because of Israel’s naval blockade on the territory, fishers miss out on catches that are further out. [bz]

| If Coronavirus Overwhelms Gaza, Israel Alone is to Blame | | Jonathan Cook - CounterPunch - "Israel has been carrying out an
unprecedented experiment in Gaza, using the latest military hardware and
surveillance technology to blockade this tiny coastal enclave by land, air and
sea. Nothing moves in or out without Israel’s say-so – until three weeks ago,
when the virus smuggled itself into Gaza inside two Palestinians returning from
Pakistan. It is known to have spread to more than a dozen people so far,
though doctors have no idea of the true extent. Testing equipment ran out days
ago" [ry] | 20/4/2020 |

| Hamas said demanding release of 250 prisoners for info on missing Israelis | | Times of Israel - The Coronavirus outbreak seems to have acted as a
catalyst to renewing and accelerating the indirect negotiations
between Israel and Hamas on a prisoner exchange. Hamas holds the
bodies of two killed Israeli soldiers and two living Israeli
civilians. Hitherto, Hamas made the providing of any information on
prisoners and bodies conditional upon Israel setting free
Palestinians who were released in the previous exchange (the 2011
Shalit Deal) but later re-arrested by Israel. Now, Hamas seems ready
to accept instead the release of imprisoned "women, children and
elderly Palestinians". Musa Dudin, a member of the Hamas political
bureau, said Israel had a “window of opportunity” that it could take
advantage of. According to the Al-Akhbar daily, Hamas officials in
Israeli prisons have drawn up the list of 250 prisoners it seeks
freed in the first stage of the deal. The daily said that a German
mediator who was involved in the 2011 Shalit deal, which saw Israel
release over 1,000 prisoners for captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit,
was again mediating between the sides.[ak] | 14/4/2020 |

| Now available: Book and Film Honoring Tom Hurndall | | Alison Weir - If Americans Knew - Tom was a student and photographer
who traveled to Gaza in 2003. On April 11, he watched as children
playing nearby suddenly came under Israeli rifle fire. Most of the
children fled, but three of them, aged four to seven, froze with
fear. Tom rushed one to safety. When he returned for two little
girls, an Israeli sniper shot him in the head. Despite the urgency,
Israeli officials delayed his transport to specialized medical care
for over two and a half hours. Tom remained in a vegetative state
until his death 9 months later. [ak] | 9/4/2020 |

sailing within fishing area allowed by Israel itself (3 nautical
miles) and opened fire at a fishing boat. As a result, two
fishermen Obai `Adel Mohamed Jarbou` (21) and Ahmed `Abed al-Fattah
Ahmed al-Sharfi (23), both are from al-Shati` camp in Gaza City,

| In 2014, I fought in Gaza. Now I’m fighting for Gaza. | | Jacob - IfNotNow - Nearly six years ago, I was a soldier in the IDF
fighting in Gaza. I joined the IDF thinking that I would be fighting
for my people’s liberation. When I got to Gaza, I saw bombed out
medical clinics and patient charts strewn across the floor. The
patients who had been hospitalized there had fled for their lives,
when me and the the other soldiers were coming near. (...) This
Passover, I’m donating part of what I would have spent on travel
towards medical supplies for Gaza, whose inhabitants face the COVID-
19 crisis with a health infrastructure battered by 13 years of
blockades and wars and 52 years of occupation, with only 40
available ICU beds and fewer than 20 available for a population of
nearly two millions. Every year we open the seder by reading “All
who are hungry, come and eat. All who are in need, come share
Passover with us.” Our tradition teaches us that celebrating our own
liberation means fighting for those who have not yet tasted freedom,
for we too were once slaves in Egypt. Donating for the people of
Gaza is the right and proper way to mark Passover this years! [ak]
