| Better to launch balloons than die in silence | | Ahmed Abu Artema - EI - “Israel has exaggerated the significance of the simple
incendiary balloons launched by groups of Palestinian youths. Israel has tried to
portray these balloons as akin to a military threat. By doing so, it has tried to
devise new ‘rules.’ Under those ‘rules,’ Israel thinks it may respond to crude
balloons with missiles launched from F-16 warplanes” [ry] | 31/8/2020 |

| Blocking of fuel supplies to Gaza causes power shortages and is collective punishment | | Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) - The Israeli
authorities` suspension of fuel entry into to the Gaza Strip, for
the seventh consecutive day, caused a drastic reduction in the
operations of the Gaza power plant. Electricity supplies to Gaza
homes will be cut off for to 16 to 20 hours per day. The power
outage will also significantly impact the quality of health and
sanitation services, including drinking water supply, sanitation and
other services, such as reduction in diagnostic and treatment
services at both governmental and private health facilities.
Additionally, drinking water supply will be interrupted for long
periods, and the power shortage will result in untreated sewage
water being pumped into sea. Work will stop at industrial,
commercial and agricultural facilities that depend on electricity,
causing huge economic losses. The declared reason for the Israeli
step are incendiary balloons sent into Israeli territory. PCHR
considers the Israeli systematic policy of tightening the closure on
the Gaza Strip as a form of collective punishment and of inhuman and
illegal reprisals against the Palestinian civilian population.
PCHR calls upon the international community to force the Israeli
occupation authorities to stop using collective punishment policy
against the Gaza Strip population and urgently intervene to
guarantee import of fuel and all other needs for the Gaza Strip
population. [ak] | 18/8/2020 |

| The separation barrier is an illusion — and Israel knows it | | Meron Rapoport and Oren Ziv - +972 - Most Jewish-Israelis believe enforcing
segregation is necessary for their security. In reality, Palestinians defy that
segregation all the time | 17/8/2020 |

Resources Authority, Zafer Melhem, said that the Gaza Strip’s only power plant
will cease operating at full capacity by next Tuesday" [ry] | 17/8/2020 |

| Regardless of power struggle with PA, Israel must allow Gaza medial patients access to urgent medial treatment | | Ghada Majadle - Physicians for Human Rights - In response to
Israel’s plan to annex parts of the West Bank, the Palestinian
Authority decided to halt coordination with Israel. This caused
terrible suffering to a completely innocent group - Gazan medical
patients needing critical treatment not available in the Strip, who
can get permits to leave the Strip only via the Palestinian Civilian
Affairs Committee, a now suspended PA agency. Cancer and heart
patients, adults and babies with critical conditions – all patients
who need urgent, often life-saving treatments are now deprived of
them, becoming pawns in a power game completely beyond their
control. Our conclusion is clear: with or without coordination -
Israel is responsible for the lives of these patients, as it wields
power over their ability to access treatment. To safeguard the lives
and health of Gaza’s residents, the closure has to be lifted, and
patients should be given safe free passage between Gaza and the West
Bank.[ak] | 4/8/2020 |
