The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil,    but because of the people who don't do anything about it
Settlements

Israel`s dog and pony showBy Sherine Tadros in Middle East Blog It`s a simple strategy and one Israel uses unapologetically - creating facts on the ground they call temporary (because in theory they are still negotiating over these facts) while carrying out actions that would make a final settlement based on anything other than what they have already created almost impossible." Ariel settlement dumps sewage on Palestinian townSaed Bannoura - IMEMC - "Israeli sewage dumping on Palestinian land is common, and Israel controls 80% of the water in the West Bank, despite the fact that it is on Palestinian land." 28/4/2010
What settlements look likePhilip Weiss - Mondoweiss - Anyone who wants to understand Israeli settlements should understand how they look to Palestinians. Here are three pictures from Hamde Abu Rahmah’s facebook page. An olive tree has been dismembered to make way for more land confiscation for a settlement in the first shot, in the second we see how young Palestinians see Jews inside the occupied territories, and in the last we see children looking out on stolen village land and a settlement. Kiera Feldman will be posting later about recent events in the occupied territories, I hope she can tell us where these heartbreaking shots are from, these pictures that make her and me ashamed of the organized Jewish community. Meantime, she passes along the news about Gandhi’s grandson, below these pictures. 8/4/2010

Eyewitness Report on the Judaization of East JerusalemLetty Cottin Pogrebin - The Huffington Post - Despite the annexation of East Jerusalem, which has never been recognized by the international community, the city has for years remained two separate entities. Arabs didn`t wander about in Jewish neighborhoods and Jews rarely ventured into the Arab section. Then the settlers started planting themselves here, there, and everywhere, to advance their "undivided Jerusalem" agenda, and with their presence to make all Israelis feel the whole city belongs to them. Like settlers in the West Bank, those in East Jerusalem are busy creating "facts on the ground" to interrupt Palestinian contiguity between East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and prevent the Palestinian Authority from claiming the Arab part of the city as their capitol (a quid pro quo for any permanent agreement). 3/4/2010
Right-wing Israelis, including legislators, occupy Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron for `celebration`Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News - Several thousand right-wing settlers and their supporters poured into the Palestinian city of Hebron Thursday and declared the site of the Ibrahimi mosque to be a part of the land of Israel. They held a celebration in the mosque, which is also the site of a 1994 massacre by Israeli right-winger Baruch Goldstein who killed 29 Palestinians praying. The celebration was in support of the Israeli government`s decision to declare the site a `national Israeli heritage site`, despite the fact that it is located well within Palestinian territory. 2/4/2010
Beit Sahour: a microcosm of Israeli colonization Ben White - The Electronic Intifada - Har Homa`s impact on the Palestinian community has been devastating, with the town of Beit Sahour now dominated by the ever-expanding settlement. While many are aware of Beit Sahour`s famous nonviolent resistance during the first Palestinian intifada (1987-1993), less well-known is how Israeli rule continues to choke the town. Har Homa has been instrumental in that respect, and it plays a role in the latest settler-driven attempts to take over more land at Ush al-Ghrab, the site of a vacated Israeli military base. Located on the edge of Beit Sahour, the Israeli military has returned to the site while right-wing settlers campaign for the area to become the new settlement of Shdema.22/4/2010
