Netanyahu: Settlement construction plans led by Uri Ariel | | Itamar Eichner - Ynet - The Prime Minister`s Office on Tuesday released a statement to foreign media insisting it was former construction minister Uri Ariel (Bayit Yehudi) who transferred millions of shekels to the planning of over 8,300 new settler homes in the contentious E1 area in the West Bank, between Ma`ale Adumim and Jerusalem.
Ariel, who currently serves as the minister of agriculture, “did so of his own initiative and without the required authorization."
Peace Now had claimed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu`s government continues to secretly promote massive construction in the settlements, half of them far beyond the separation fence, which seriously endangers the two-state solution. [bz] | 30/12/2015 |

Knesset passes dangerous settlement funding law — without a hitch | | Dahlia Scheindlin - +972 - While Israeli society has been busy with incitement against human rights workers, a baby-killing celebration, and legislation attacking civil society, the Knesset quietly approved a new law last week formalizing the status of the notorious Settlement Division of World Zionist Organization (WZO). The Settlement Division is the vehicle for Israeli government funding and development of “rural settlement” ... for Jewish-only communities beyond the urban settlement blocs. [bz] | 29/12/2015 |

Palestinian home targeted in suspected revenge attack by settlers | | Ma`an - Suspected Israeli settlers early Tuesday attacked a Palestinian home in a Ramallah-area village in the occupied West Bank in what appeared to be a revenge attack for the arrest of Jewish extremists who carried out a deadly attack last summer.
Hussein al-Najjar, 30, told Ma`an that settlers arrived to his home in the village of Beitillu around 1:30 a.m. and vandalized the exterior walls of the house before smashing in a window and throwing three tear gas bombs inside.
Al-Najjar said that he and his wife as well as their 9-month-old son Karam suffered from severe tear gas inhalation.
"The family survived death thanks to the intervention of neighbors who broke open the main door and evacuated the family, who were found unconscious." [bz] | 22/12/2015 |

The long road to labeling settlement products | | Daoud Kuttab - Al-Monitor - According to Shamas, the labeling guidelines attempt to correct the EU’s failure to effectively implement its own legislation after numerous complaints by consumers and parliamentarians about products that they knew were made in Israeli settlements but were labeled “Made in Israel.” “As the problem festered, the pressure to fix it mounted. The labeling notice itself stated the notice does not create any new legislative rules,” said Shamas.- rh
