Habima to travel to Kiryat Arba, fans protest | | Ran Boker - Ynet - A post protesting its showing in Kiryat Arba, which received hundreds of "likes" and dozens of "shares" on social media site Facebook, read, "There are few places more loathsome than that in our area. I suggest that the actors and crewmembers arrive a bit beforehand and tour Meir Kahane Park, which also includes the grave of Baruch Goldstein." The Habima Theatre management responded that, as the national theater of the state of Israel, it (...) condemns any attempt to culturally boycott any place where Israeli citizens live."

Why Israeli occupation of the West Bank is reversible | | Akiva Eldar -
Al-Monitor
"While it seems that the heart of the Israeli people is indeed on
the right, at least according to opinion polls, its feet are planted
deep on the left side of the map of the land of Israel. The Central
Bureau of Statistics` numbers show that there is indeed a way back
from the occupation and that the two-state solution is not dead; the
settler population in Judea and Samaria is no more than 4.4% of the
"Israeli people" (the Jewish population) and only 13% of the
population of the West Bank. This is the case after 50 years of
efforts to create irreversible facts in the territories, the
investment of tens of billions of shekels in infrastructure and
incentives, and untold damage to Israel`s international stature.
What happened to the 1977 promise made by then-Agriculture Minister
Ariel Sharon (later prime minister), who was appointed that year as
chairman of the ministerial committee for settlement issues, that
within a decade a million Jews would live in Judea and Samaria?" ca

Israel Settlement Activity Quadrupled Over Past Year | | Jason Ditz - Antiwar.com (based on latest report from settlement watchdog group Peace Now) - Perhaps even more disturbing than the actual numbers is where the construction is taking place, as large amounts of the construction is happening deep in Palestinian territory, in places like Ariel, settlements that are far beyond the borders of any expected negotiated two-state solution. West Bank Settlers Prepare for Clash, With Israeli Government | | ISABEL KERSHNER -
New York Times
"A flagship of the settler enterprise, Amona is becoming a test of
how far Israel’s right-wing government will go to avoid a clash with
its constituency and how vested it is in more than 100 outposts
built without authorization across the West Bank. It is forcing
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to balance the demands of his
conservative coalition partners, the state’s judicial authorities
and world leaders, who overwhelmingly view the settlements as
violations of international law." ca | 7/10/2016 |

PLO condemns Israel`s plans to construct new settlement for Amona evacuees | | Ma`an -
"The building of the new settlement has been seen as direct resistance to the Israeli Supreme Court ruling in 2008 which ordered Amona`s demolition after Palestinians from neighboring villages -- with the support of Israeli human rights organization Yesh Din -- successfully petitioned the court to remove the outpost." - id | 5/10/2016 |

"The state will ask the High Court to, once again, delay the
demolition of Amona. Here are a few myths surrounding one of the
most stubborn outposts in the West Bank." ca | 14/10/2016 |

Soldiers harass journalists during trip to Jordan Valley | | Wafa - Journalists on a tour organised by the Palestinian Ministry
of Information were stopped for three hours by Israeli soldiers.
They were forbidden to use the main road to their destination, the
Palestinian community of Ein Sakout in the Jordan Valley. Instead,
the soldiers directed them to a very rough side road. When the
journalists persisted, arrived at Ein Sakout and started talking to
inhabitants, the soldiers came again and forced them to leave.
Recently, an Israeli court ruled that 6500 dunums of land in this
area, taken over by settlers, should be returned to their
Palestinian owners. So far, however, the Israeli authorities failed
to implement the court decision. [ak] | 4/10/2016 |

Settlers pump wastewater into Salfit’s olive fields | | Palestinian Information Center - “The industrial refuse from Israeli factories and the wastewater from the neighboring settlements have increased. Our crops are unsafe to eat and our livestock are threatened. Children are suffering from skin and stomach illnesses. The smell is foul and we have a problem with insects. Most of the dumping of waste is deliberate.” [bz]

Settler youths harass Hebron olive harvesters | | A group of Israeli settler youths, escorted by soldiers, harassed a
Palestinian family harvesting olives in land near their house at the
Tel Rumeida neighborhoods in Hebron. Not content with obstructing
the Palestinians, the young settlers attempted to themselves steal
the olives. However, they were stopped by members of the Hebron-
based Youth Against Settlements (YAS) group. [ak] | 4/10/2016 |
