Palestinian mayor says land set aside for Amona evacuees also privately owned | | Ma`an - Israeli authorities have notified the municipal council of the occupied West Bank town of Silwad of plans to confiscate privately-owned land in the town`s outskirts, to be used to house residents of the illegal Israeli outpost of Amona, which is slated for imminent demolition.
After the Israeli Supreme Court ruled for the outpost to be demolished on the grounds that it was built on privately-owned Palestinians land, an eleventh hour agreement was reached Sunday between the Israeli government and Amona’s settlers to relocate the majority of them to a nearby hilltop.
However, as Mayor of Silwad Abd al-Rahman Salih pointed out, the new land in question is also privately owned by Palestinians. | 20/12/2016 |

More than half of US aid ‘to entire world’ goes to Israel and it ignores our warnings on settlements | | Philip Weiss - Mondoweiss - But back then in 1993 [when Oslo principles were signed], there were 110,000 settlers in the West Bank. Today there are 385,500 or so. There is an increase – there is about 90,000 settlers living outside of the barrier. And the barrier, I want to remind everybody here, was established by Israel. That’s a line that was drawn by Israel – not necessarily a border, but it’s a line. It’s a reflection of a security line. Outside of that line drawn by Israel there are now 90,000 Israelis living in these patchworks of settlements. There are 129 settlements. There are about 100 outposts, and outposts, as you all know, are illegal.-rh | 8/12/2016 |

4,000 illegal Israeli settlement homes could become legal | | The New Arab - The controversial bill which passed a preliminary
Knesset vote could lead to the legalization of nearly 4,000 settler
homes in the occupied West Bank. The bill is sponsored by Education
Minister Naftali Bennet of the Jewish Home Party. "With this law,
the state of Israel has moved from the path leading to the creation
of a Palestinian state to the path leading to Israeli sovereignty
over most of Judea and Samaria (West Bank)" Bennett told army radio.

Revised Settlement Regulation Bill passes preliminary Knesset vote | | Tova Tzimuki and Elisha Ben Kimon - Y-net - Despite the Attorney
General’s warnings that the bill contains components contravening
international and Israeli law, it passed its preliminary
Knesset vote by 60-49. "This is a black day
for the Knesset!" cried Labor Party leader Herzog. Under the
agreement between PM Netanyahu and Naftali Bennet of the Jewish Home
Party, if enacted the bill would not prevent evacuation of the Amona
settlement, whose evacuation was
ordered by the Supreme Count. It would, however, legitimize dozens
of other settlements taking up private Palestinian land. [ak] | 6/12/2016 |

"The land that Israel has designated for the joyous settlers is
called Atir/Umm al-Hiran, and for 60 years it has been home to
members of the Bedouin Al-Qi’an tribe...In other words, the homes
and playgrounds for Jewish children that will be built there, and
the gardens to be planted, will all be established on the ruins of
the homes and lives of some 1,000 other people, who are also Israeli
citizens (some of whom served in the army, for those who care)." ca | 2/12/2016 |
