The IDF prevents Palestinian farmers in the Gaza Strip from cultivating their land within a range of one kilometre from the border with Israel.
On Tuesday, 27th January, 2009, Israeli soldiers opened fire on a group of farmers from the village El Farhin, situated east of Khan Younis, killing one of them, a man named Anwar. The farmers were working on their land about 700 metres from the border.
On Thursday, 5th February, 2009, the farmers of El Farhin went out, again, to work their land, this time escorted by international human rights activists.
They were some 500 metres from the border. Again, IDF soldiers fired at them. No one was hurt this time.
