The Ahrar Center for Detainee Studies stated that the Israeli army detained, on Monday, Montaha Taweel, 45, an activist who works to defend the rights of the Palestinian detainees, and the wife of the mayor of al-Bireh.

Al-Bireh is near the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

Fuad al-Khoffash, director of the Ahrar center, warned of the increasing arrests carried out by the Israeli army against Palestinian women, especially social and political activists.

In a press release, al-Khoffash stated that Taweel organizes and participates in activities in support of the Palestinian detainees and their rights.

He slammed the ongoing and escalating arrests carried out by the Israeli army against the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Original tilte: `The Israeli military detained 16 Palestinian civilians from the West Bank`

The Israeli military detained 16 Palestinian civilians during invasions targeting West Bank communities late Monday night and Tuesday at dawn.

The Israeli army radio announced that all those detained today were on its “wanted list”. The radio added that all detainees were moved to military camps for questioning.

Local Palestinian sources reported invasions to the cities of Tulkarem, Qalqilia, and Nablus northern West Bank in addition to the central city of Ramallah and Hebron city, southern West Bank.

Last week the Israeli military conducted at least 19 invasions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Israeli troops detained at least 51 Palestinian civilians, including one child.

Original tilte: `Israeli invasion into Qalqilyah and Al-Bira`

West Bank, February 8, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) - Israeli occupation forces on Monday dawn detained six Palestinians in raid into the villages of Azzun and Haja in Qalqilya governorate in the West Bank.

Local sources said that a large force of Israeli army invaded the villages at dawn and raided several houses. After searching them, they kidnapped six Palestinians and took them to an unknown place.

The sources said that Israeli occupation forces detained in the village of Haja: Mohammed Arif Mahmoud Diab, 17, and Monjed Atef Mohammed Hassan, 17, after raiding their homes.

Eyewitnesses reported that several military vehicles invaded the village of Azzun, raided houses and searched them and then detained : Mustafa Bilal Hussein ,17, Adham Salim ,17, Amjad Jamal shalo ,19, and Jaafar Abdul Karim ,16, then they took them to an unknown place.

In Al-Bira city, Israeli occupation forces detained at dawn the wife of Al-Bira Municipality Montaha Al-Taweel, 45, after breaking into her home and breaking the doors of the house.

The Israeli occupation forces conduct daily raids in the cities and villages in the West Bank claiming that they search for what they call `wanted`.
