Israeli soldiers kidnapped on Thursday at dawn legislator Dr. Samir Al Qadi, 55, after breaking into his home in Surif town, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, and took him to an unknown destination.
Local sources reported that the army surrounded the house of Al Qadi before kidnapping him. He was cuffed and blindfolded before he was taken away.
With the kidnapping of legislator Al Qadi, the number of Palestinian elected legislators illegally imprisoned by Israel stands now at 17, nine of them are from the Hebron district. Some of the legislators have been repeatedly kidnapped and imprisoned.
The legislators currently imprisoned by Israel are Ali Romanim from Jericho, Dr. Omar Abdul-Raziq from Salfit, Ahmad Al Haj from Nablus, Dr. Mahmoud Al Ramahi, Nizar Ramadan, Khalil Al Til, Khalil Al Rab’ey, Dr. Azzam Salhab, Mohammad Al Natsha, Dr. Hatem Qfeisha, Mohammad Bader, and Samir Al Qadi; all from Hebron.
Israel is still surrounding the Red Cross office, in occupied East Jerusalem, as two legislators and one minister have been holding a sit-in protest in the building since nearly a year as they are facing illegal deportation from their hometown.
The protesting elected officials are Legislators Mohammad Totah and Ahmad Attoun in addition to minister Khaled Abu Arafa. Legislator Mohammad Abu Teir has been deported to Ramallah, and his ID was revoked; he is not allowed back into Jerusalem.
