NABLUS, July 11, 2013 (WAFA) – Landowners in the Nablus area village of Awarta reported that a massacre has been committed against their olive trees, a local activist said Thursday.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settler activities in the Nablus area, said owners of olive tree fields in Awarta, east of Nablus, discovered when they reached their land Thursday morning that Israeli settlers from nearby Itamar have cut down 1150 fully grown and years old trees.

He told WAFA that the Israeli army allowed some landowners to reach their land near the settlement and that they were shocked from the horror of what they saw: All the trees were cut from the bottom of the stem, they reported.

Villagers said they used to hear the sound of electric saws for several days but never knew what was going on because the army would not allow them to reach their land, which the army had closed and surrounded by barbed wire.

Farmers, who described the scene as a massacre, were able to reach their land after coordinating with the Israeli army.
