Arab Israelis and Jewish sympathizers hold general strike and Tel Aviv rally to
protest house demolitions

- Stop the demolition of Arab homes!
- No to the racist policies of Netanyahu and his government!
- Implement just solutions, ensure to all the fundamental right for housing!

Today – Tue. April 28, 2015, - Israeli Jewish citizens who seek justice and
peace are joining the protest rally organized by the Monitoring Committee of
the Arab Citizens of Israel, in protest against the demolition of Arab
citizens’ homes all over the country.

The rally will take place at 5:00 am at Tel Aviv‘s Rabin Square, simultaneously
with the general strike called by the Monitoring Committee.

`Struggle for Our Homes` - a general strike throughout the Arab society in
Israel, and a country-wide rally in Tel Aviv, to protest house demolitions.

The Arab citizens of Israel are today (Tue.) observing a general strike to
protest the ongoing demolition of the homes of Arab citizens at various
regions: the Triangle, the Negev, the Galilee and in the mixed cities.

The Monitoring Committee of the Arab Citizens of Israel will hold a rally in
Tel Aviv`s Rabin Square at 5:00 am.

As stated by the Monitoring Committee, the strike and rally are aimed at
voicing the protest of the Arab citizens who suffer from a serious housing
crisis, ongoing house demolitions, land confiscation, denial of requests to
expand their communities’ municipal jurisdictions and non-approval of zoning
plans.

The decision to hold the rally in Tel Aviv is also aimed as a call upon Jewish
Israelis to stand together with their Arab fellow citizens and confront
together the pernicious and inflammatory policies of the Netanyahu Government ,
which are leading to escalating ethnic tensions in the Israeli society.

The Monitoring Committee emphasizes that the Right to Housing is an elementary
right of each and every citizen, a right which the state and all its
institutions are bound to respect and whose implementation they must
facilitate.

Speakers at the rally will include elected officials, Knesset Members of the
Joint List which garnered 13 seats in the recent general elections, as well as
Jewish and Arab public figures.

Note: The name of the leadership body of Israel’s Arab citizens is often
translated as “The High Follow-up Committee”. In the opinion of the present
translator, “Monitoring Committee” is a more precise English translation.
