Tel Aviv, Friday - launching campaign for 50 years` occupation

Already for fifty years, successive Israeli governments maintain military
rule over the Palestinian people, denying their most basic rights and
depriving them of liberty, incidentally plunging Israel`s own society into
repeated crises and poverty.

Today, Friday March 3, 2017 at 11:00 am, at the `Black Platform` square in
the corner of Herzl and Rothschild in downtown Tel Aviv, will be launhcned
the campaign to return the occupation to the focus of public discourse in
Israel. To mark the impending fiftieth anniversary of the occupation, peace
groups, organizations and political parties, as well as artists and poets
will arrive on Friday to the square - to start a discussion, provide
information, ask questions and a suggest courses of action in the struggle
against the occupation.

In the invitation to the event, the organizers stated: `We are the second
generation of Israelis to be born and raised into a situation in which the
settlement enterprise is the biggest project undertaken by the government of
Israel and the army`s primary mission is to maintainthe occupation.

For many years we are being told us that this is needed for our security,
that we must go on living by the sword. For years we are told that repeated
rounds of fighting in Gaza are an unavoidable destiny. Instead striving to
end the conflict and to blaze a trail forward to a future of peace,
successive Israeli governments have chosen to deepen the occupation, expand
settlement construction, and in recent years also to resort to crude
incitement and the deliberate sowing of divisions among different parts of
the Israeli society`.

Blazing all over the country and the threatening the lives of civilians, the
Prime Minister and his ministers were quick to point an accusing finger at
all Arab citizens, using such terms as `fire terrorists` and “an arson
intifada`. Two weeks ago, in the name of so-called `equal law enforcement`,
the government sent the `our boys` to destroy eleven homes in the Arab town
of Qalansawe. This was after years of suffocating the Arab communities, with
no new ones established, no approved master plans and no options for legal
constructio. And no, unlike removed settlers on the West Bank, they were not
offered a million shekels in compensations or new house constructed by the
state.
Last week, in an attempt to destroy the Bedouin village of Um al-Hiran in
the Negev – in order to establish a Jewish community on the site - the
police and the government decided to declare an Arab citizen as being “an
ISIS terrorist”, a completely false assertion. And Netanyahu rallying the
right-wing voters by tweeting on elections day `The Arabs are flocking to
the polls` This goes without saying. .

The tragic events at Um al-Hiran, ending the sad death of Yakub Musa Alkiaan
and police officer Erez Amedi Levi cop, must serve as a turning point. No
longe shall we, no longer can we, watch such things passively, sitting
frustrated and frightened at home. These events must become the moment when
we stand up be counted - when we, Jews and Arabs together, put an end to the
govern-ment`s ongoing onslaught against Israeli society. The moment when we,
Arabs and Jews, stand together and make it crystal clear: all citizens are
equal - Jews and Arabs. his house is ours, it belongs to all of us.

On Saturday night, February 4, at 7:30 we will march and hold mass rally –
so that all who live here can live in equality, dignity, each feeling this
home is his and hers.

Marching in Tel Aviv, from Magen David Square (corner of Allenby and King
George) and culminating in a rally on Dizengoff Street (near Dizengoff
Square).

מחר (שישי) בתל אביב: השמאל נאבק בחמישים שנות כיבוש\

מחר, יום ו` ב-11:00 בכיכר `הבימה השחורה` שבפינת רוטשילד והרצל בתל אביב, יערך יריד התנעה
למאבק נגד הכיבוש לקראת ציון 50 שנים של שליטה בשטחים ביוני הקרוב. האירוע הוא יוזמה של קבוצות,
תנועות ארגונים ומפלגות, אמנים ומשוררים, שיגיעו ביום ו` לכיכר כדי לפתוח דיון, לספק אינפורמציה,
לשאול שאלות ולהציע דרכי פעולה במאבק נגד הכיבוש.

בהזמנה לאירוע נכתב: `אנחנו הדור השני בישראל שנולד וגדל בתוך מציאות שבה מפעל ההתנחלויות הוא
הפרויקט הגדול ביותר של ממשלות ישראל, ושמשימתו העיקרית של צה`ל היא הכיבוש. שנים אומרים לנו
שככה עושים ביטחון ושלעד נחיה על חרב. שנים שמספרים לנו שכל סבב לחימה ברצועת עזה הוא גזירת
גורל. במקום לשאוף לסיום הסכסוך ולצעוד אל דרך של שלום, בחרו ממשלות ישראל להעמיק את הכיבוש,
להרחיב את הבנייה בשטחים, ובשנים האחרונות אף להסית ולפלג בין חלקיה השונים של החברה הישראלית`.

במהלך האירוע יעלו שורה של משוררים, אמנים ופעילים יהודים וערבים על במה שתוצב בכיכר ויקראו
טקסטים הקשורים בכיבוש המתמשך ובהשפעתו על החברה. כמו כן, הארגונים השונים יקימו דוכנים בהם יספרו
על פעילויותיהם, יחלקו חומרי הסברה, ויקיימו דיונים עם קהל המשתתפים.

הארגונים המשתתפים באירוע הם מרצ, חד`ש, שלום עכשיו, לוחמים לשלום, עומדים ביחד, גוש שלום,
שוברים שתיקה, פורום המשפחות השכולות, מחסום ווטש, מאבק סוציאליסטי, זזים – קהילה פועלת,
קואליציית נשים לשלום, גוש שלום, הבטחתם יונה, גוש שלום, גבעת חביבה וגישה.
