Israeli activists visit Irish Embassy, call for recognition of Palestine
Israeli activists visited the Irish Embassy, asking Government of Ireland to
recognize State of Palestine
Today we visited the Embassy of Ireland in Israel and presented the
Ambassador, Mr. Kyle O’Sullivan, a letter written in three languages –
Arabic, Hebrew and English – signed by us, the POALOT group and 50
Palestinian, Israeli, and international peace activists, demanding that the
Government of Ireland and every other government act upon their verbal
declaration of intent to officially recognize the State of Palestine and
support the Palestinian Right of Return.
There is no basis for the claim, commonplace in the world today, that “peace
will be achieved only through negotiations with no pre-conditions”. Peace
will be achieved only by founding a Palestinian state in the 1967 borders
and by implementing the Palestinians’ right of return to the lands and
property from which they were expelled in 1948.
We claim that the Palestinians’ right to a sovereign state of their own, an
end to the Israeli military occupation and a just, agreed-upon solution of
the refugee problem cannot depend upon the Israeli government’s good will
and we turn, therefore, to Ireland and to other states to recognize the
State of Palestine unilaterally and support the Right of Return.
