Stanford University student senate passes Israel divestment resolution | | Jerusalem Post - The Stanford students voted to divest from
corporations complicit in human right abuses in “Israel and
Palestine.” The text actually stated that it “was not
connected to the BDS movement.” Notwithstanding, it
is a substantial victory of the BDS activists, who for a long time
had Stanford - a prestigious but largely apolitical university -
on their “wish list”. Their aim is now achieved, after a
failure last year. In principle university authorities can go to court
against a student divestment resolution; Harvard University had done
so regarding a divestment resolution by their own students (on an
environmental issue). However, Israeli government PR experts note that
even a divestment resolution ultimately overturned by a court does
generate negative publicity and adds to the delegitimization of
Israel. [ak] | 24/2/2015 |
